Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Naya yatra was stopped by Assam district administration, citing the law and order problem which may arise during the yatra. This caused great dissatisfaction among the Congress party members.
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has undertaken this second phase of the yatra called Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra. The yatra started on 14 January from Manipur and planned to end in Mumbai on March 20 . On its way they reached Assam via Nagaland yesterday.
Permission denied
As a part of Bharat Jodo Naya yatra, Rahul Gandhi planned to visit Bhatrava Chatra, the birthplace of Vaishnavite Srimanta Sankaradeva in Assam yesterday January 22. But Rahul Gandhi was denied permission to visit the temple and also his yatra was stopped from entering the cities in Assam.
Later Rahul Gandhi addressed the media about this issue. He said that we have been stopped by the Assam government citing the law and order issue. The government has behaved as if there will be no law and order problem if anyone other than me goes to the temple of saint Srimanta Sankaradeva. Rahul also suspects there may be other reasons behind this.
Yatra stopped
Similarly, Rahul Gandhi planned a street campaign in Assam’s Morigaon district. But the district police commissioner has stopped him because some anti-social elements may enter the district along with them and disturb the peace of the district by connecting the Ram temple inauguration in Ayodhya and Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra.
Case against Rahul Gandhi
Today January 23, Rahul’s yatra tried to enter Guwahati city of Assam but the border was blocked with barricades. The Congressmen broke the barricades and raised slogans against the state ruling BJP. As a result Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma directed DGP to file a case against Rahul Gandhi for violation of government guidelines by provoking crowds and creating a massive traffic jam in the Guwahati city.
