Egypt has proposed a mega plan to end the ongoing war in Gaza. The war that has killed thousands of people upto today.
Over 20,600 Palestinians have been murdered in the conflict, which has also destroyed huge portions of Gaza and forced nearly all of the 2.3 million residents to flee their homes.
What is in Egypt’s proposal to end the Israel-Palestine war?
The plan called for Israel to completely leave the Gaza Strip, the release of all Hamas hostages as well as a large number of Palestinian detainees, and the installation of a single, technocratic Palestinian government in the enclave. It was sent on Monday to the governments of Israel, Hamas, the US, and Europe.
According to top Egyptian officials and a European diplomat acquainted with the proposal, the Egyptian plan asks for a progressive release of hostages and the establishment of a Palestinian government composed of specialists to oversee the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank.
According to the Egyptian source, it calls for the release of 120–150 Palestinians from Israeli prisons in exchange for an initial two-week cease-fire during which Palestinian militants would free 40–50 hostages, including women, the sick, and the elderly.
Israel-Hamas and other reacts to the Plan
Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, remained silent on the idea. However, in a speech to Likud Party members, he declared that he was committed to continuing Israel’s onslaught, which was started in retaliation for a Hamas raid on southern Israel on October 7 that claimed 1,200 lives and kidnapped 240 more.
Hamas does not respond to the suggestion. It was still uncertain if Hamas, which had ruled Gaza for the previous 16 years, would consent to give up control.
