There are violent protests in Bengaluru as Karnataka Rakshana Vedika group and pro- Kannada group demanded 60 % Kannada on signboards. Protestors harm the shops and tear the signboard demanding 60 percent Kannada language on them. Karnataka Rakshana Vedike , president T.A. Gowda also get arrested during the protest.

Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, President T.A. Gowda arrested

Karnataka Rakshana Vedike President T.A. Narayana Gowda and 29 of his associates were detained on December 27 after Gowda spearheaded rallies against non-Kannada signboards that turned violent. On the morning of December 28, they were produced before a magistrate. The judge placed them under judicial custody and moved them to Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.

Narayan Gowda said that if anyone don’t want Kannada names on their signboards, they should move out of Karnataka. He seemed angry with the popularity of English among people or the people coming from outside doing business in Karnataka and not using Kannada language.

Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike has come up with a rule that all business establishments to display 60 percent Kannada signage.  This rule states that a signboard shall include more than half of its text in Kannada. The stores will close, and their trading licenses will be revoked if the deadline of February 28 is not met.

Protestors were enraged with the use of English language on the signboards. They tore down English signboards and spread black ink on them to show their resentment. The protest went very violent police had to intervene to stop it.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that those who are harming public property and took the law into their hand and do anything against law, we will take action against them.

Like every other matter this has become ruling government verses opposition. Opposition part BJP alleged Congress government for creating Kannadiga versus Non-Kannadiga.

Language remains core of the Protests

People are very sensitive about their language in south. in past also there were few incidents where revolts have been done because of language.  Language is very important aspect there politicians along with citizen consider language as important political topic.

Protest has turned violent and caused harm to public property. how long will this protest end is not known? now and how much attention it draws from government is also not known, but surely this become topic of discussion among people and harmed public properties.

Protestors without harming public property should keep their concern to government with peaceful protest.
