Jagannathan, Vice-Chancellor of Salem Periyar University was arrested on allegations that he started his own company to carry out various works of Periyar University and thereby misused government funds.
Jaganathan is the Vice-Chancellor of Salem Periyar University since 2021. Ilangovan, who was the legal advisor of the Periyar University Employee Union(PUEU), filed a complaint against Jaganathan at the Karupur police station that he had started his own company along with his partners called PUTER (Periyar University Technology Entrepreneurship and Research) foundation in violation of the rules to carry out various works of the university and had misused government money through it. The investigation revealed that the Vice-Chancellor, being a government officer, started a profitable company in violation of the rules and ran the company with the help of university officials, thereby misusing government funds.
Subsequently, Karuppur police filed a case against Vice Chancellor jaganathan under 8 sections and arrested him. While some more complaints were made against him, it was reported that the police have taken steps to register a case against them as well.
In this situation, Jaganathan was produced before the Salem Court Magistrate Dinesh kumar this morning where he was granted interim bail for 7 days and the judge ordered him to appear at Suramangalam police station and sign for these 7 days.
