Everything you need to know regarding the Sydney incident
Six people were fatally stabbed by a knife-wielding suspect, who was shot dead by a senior police officer with 1 bullet itself.
4 people had reportedly found dead at the scene, while a fifth woman died from her injuries at hospital and and 1 child is in surgery.
Eight people are currently being treated for their injuries at hospitals around Sydney, including a nine-month-old baby who was last reported to be in surgery, a tragic sight to have witnessed for the people that were there.
Authorities say the suspect is a 40-year-old man, but are waiting for formal identification and say it’s “too early to speculate”about his motivations to kill the people
Police have made a statement that the the suspect had entered the shopping centre at Bondi Junction at around 15:10 local time and then left “very shortly after” before returning ten minutes later and moving through the mall to find victims.
A senior female officer nearby to the scene was the first to respond and saw the suspect “lunge” at her before she shot him dead, police say. A real Hero.
That officer, who has been praised by Prime Minister Albanese as a “hero”, too conducted CPR until the arrival of paramedics but he could not be revived
Westfield Bondi Junction will remain closed tomorrow and the investigation will be “ongoing” for a number of days
Police believe the suspect acted alone and that there is no ongoing risk to the public as of now.
