Former Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, who joined the Congress during the Karnataka assembly elections, rejoins BJP today, 25 January.
Jagadish Shettar, former Chief Minister of Karnataka was denied a seat from BJP to contest the state Assembly elections in April last year. Because of this he left BJP and joined Congress a few days before the 2023 election. There he got a chance to contest in Hubli-Dharwad central constituency representing Congress. This is the constituency where he won for BJP previously but this time in 2023 he lost the election by a huge margin to the BJP’s Mahesh Tenginakai.
Then he contested in Karnataka Assembly by-election on behalf of Congress and became an MLC. Now, when Lok sabha general election is around the corner, he rejoined BJP in front of the former Chief Minister Yeddyurappa and state BJP president P.Y. Vijayendra.
Reasons to rejoin
He explained about this rejoining that he got many responsibilities in BJP in the past but due to some unfortunate situation he left the party and joined congress. There were various discussions in the past 9 months and the BJP party wanted him to come back. So he decided to rejoin BJP in the hope that Narendra Modi will become Prime Minister again in upcoming Lok sabha elections
As he is an influential leader in the Lingayat community of Karnataka, Congress surroundings are shocked by this move of their him. Also they face huge problems with Trinamool Congress in WestBengal and Aam Aadmi party in Punjab ahead of Lok sabha elections.
