TN budget 2024 : Cancer management, accident care and more for People welfare

Tamil Nadu Finance Minister announced budget for the financial year 2024-25 and the government allotted Rs. 20,198 crores for Health and People welfare.

Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Tennarasu announced budget for 2024-25 today in the Legislative assembly. In which he made some important announcement regarding the Department of Health and People’s Welfare.

TN budget for Health and People welfare

The government allotted Rs. 20,198 crore rupees for the the Department of Health and People’s Welfare. A 100-bed intensive care unit will be constructed at Perundurai Government Medical College Hospital at an estimated budget of Rs 40 crore. Also, additional buildings for 25 circle and non-circle hospitals will be constructed at a budget of Rs.87 crore. The Tamil Nadu Government Dental College Hospital in Chennai will also be upgraded at a budget of Rs 64 crore.

The Tamil Nadu government is implementing a huge program called ‘Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam’ which means medical facilities provided in the people door steps by the professionals. An allocation of Rs 243 crore will be made for this scheme, which will provide services for all members of the family to benefit from home.

The government also give importance pioneering “Innuivir Kaappom-Nalam Kakkum 48 scheme, by which more than 2 lakh people has benefited in 2023. The Scheme provides ceiling for free treatment within the first 48 hours of an accident. Fund allotted for this scheme will be raised from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh for each beneficiaries.

Medical infrastructure

Infrastructural facilities for intensive care units and diagnostic services across the state will be further upgraded in the coming financial year. 6 intensive care units with 50 beds will be constructed at Rameswaram, Sentura, Sriperumbudur, Arakkonam hospitals, Theni and Salem Government Medical College Hospitals at an estimated budget of Rs 142 crore.

Tamil Nadu is the leading state in the country in increasing the contribution of government hospitals to over 50 per cent in treating patients using medical insurance. 200 crores will be spent from the insurance package fund to further improve the infrastructure and provide superior services in these hospitals.

TN Cancer Management Mission

The government also announce to implement a new cancer management mission to detect cancer at an early stage, provide appropriate treatment and provide rehabilitation services. The Government Anna Memorial Cancer Hospital will be provided with additional high-end oncology equipment for the required high-quality treatment and will be upgraded to a Center of Excellence.

Special de-addiction centres will be set up in 25 government hospitals to provide mental health counselling, medical treatment and rehabilitation services to alcohol and drug addicts at a budget of Rs 20 crore.

These are the schemes that Tamil Nadu government allotted for the Department of Health and people welfare.
