Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched various development projects worth Rs.32,000 crore in Jammu and Kashmir. Also, he inaugurated AIIMS hospital and laid foundation stones for various projects which will propel holistic development in the region.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, visited Jammu on Tuesday, 20 February, and participated in the event held at Maulana Azad ground. He unveiled various development projects worth Rs. 32,000 crores, as a part of ‘Developed India Developed Jammu’ programme.
Education Sector
Prime Minister Modi launches various educational schemes worth Rs.13,375 crore . Campuses of major institutes at IIT Tirupati, IIT Jammu, IIITDM Kurnool, Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) Kanpur, two permanent campuses of Central Sanskrit University – Devprayag (Uttarakhand) and Agartala (Tripura) are inaugurates.
Also, three IIM campuses namely IIM Jammu and IIM Buddha Gaya and IIM Visakhapatnam are inaugurates. Apart from this, 20 new buildings of Kendra Vidyalaya and 13 new buildings of Navodaya Vidyalaya are inaugurates across the country. Prime Minister Modi also laid foundation stones for 5 Kendra Vidyalaya Campuses, one Navodaya Vidyalaya Campus and 5 Perspective Rooms for Navodaya Vidyalayas across the country.
AIIMS Jammu
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences was inaugurated at Vijaypur (Samba) in Jammu, to provide quality and comprehensive medical services to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also laid foundation stone for this institute in February 2019, under the Prime Minister’s Development of Medical Education in Backward States Scheme.
This hospital will provide patient care services in 17 highly specialized departments including cardiology, gastroenterology, urology, neurology, neurosurgery, medical oncology, surgical oncology, endocrinology, burns, plastic surgery. The institute will have an intensive care unit, emergency room, 20 modern operating theaters, diagnostic laboratories, blood bank, pharmacy etc.
Airport
Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone to build a new terminal building at Jammu Airport. The building covers an area of 40,000 square meters and is equipped with modern facilities to handle around 2,000 passengers.
Rail Projects
The Prime Minister dedicated various rail projects in Jammu and Kashmir including the new rail line between Panihal – Gari – Sambar – Sangathan (48 km) and the newly electrified Baramulla – Sirungar – Panihal – Sangathan section (185.66 km). The Prime Minister flagged off the first electric train in the Kashmir Valley and train service between Sangaldan Railway Station – Baramulla Railway Station. Also, India’s longest traffic tunnel T-50 (12.77 km) is located between Kari-Shambar is inaugurates today.
Road Projects
Similarly, Prime Minister Modi also laid the foundation stone for the expansion of the expressway road connecting Delhi to Jammu Katra.
General Purpose Petroleum Storage Facility
Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for a project to build a general purpose petroleum storage facility in Jammu. About Rs. 677 crore, this state-of-the-art automated warehouse will have a storage capacity of around 100,000 kilometers for storing motor spirit, high speed diesel, superior kerosene, aviation turbine fuel, ethanol, biodiesel and winter grade high speed diesel.
Ahead of Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir, the Border Security Force has conducted intensive surveillance along the Indo-Pak border. Jammu’s Maulana Azad Maidan, where the ceremony was held, was brought under police control.
