Trinomial Congress leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said that her party disagree with the concept of ‘one nation, one election’. In this regard, she clearly explained her stand in a letter written to the committee headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind.
A committee headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind has been formed to examine the possibility of holding the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections simultaneously across the country which was called the ‘One nation one election’ system. The committee had written to all political parties asking for their opinion on this matter.
TMC disagrees
In this matter Mamata Banerjee has responded that she completely disagree with the one nation one election system that BJP created and the TMC also disagrees with the formulation and proposal of this system because non-simultaneous elections are part of the basic structure of the Indian Constitution.
Earlier, The committee had sent letters to 6 national parties, 33 state parties and 7 registered but unrecognized parties to get their view on this matter.
This committee headed by former President Ram Nath Govind announced that the public also can give their views on the One Country One Election by the 15th of this month. In this regard, in the notification issued by the committee on the 6th, the public’s comments regarding the ‘one nation, one election’ system will be taken into consideration by January 15. It is informed that the comments can be made through the website of the inspection committee or through email.
