Farmers in Germany are protesting nationwide against the government’s agricultural policies since Monday, Jan 8. They were coming in large numbers with their tractors and blocking the important roads of their city.
Farmers are on strike in many cities including Berlin, the capital of Germany as they parked a large number of tractors near the historic Brandenburg Gate.
They have blocked highways in many places because they were disappointed over the German government’s decision to cut down subsidies on diesel and tax exemption which was given to farmers and truck drivers.
Massive protest ahead
The farmers organisation said that the protest will continue throughout the week and a massive protest to be held on January 15 on Berlin.
Berlin police reported that 566 tractors, trucks and carts were involved in the strike across the country. Because of this there was heavy traffic in many parts of the country and normal life of people have been affected in parts of northern and eastern Germany.
The German government cut subsidies for diesel after the huge shortfall in the country’s budget. The Germany’s Constitutional Court also declared that the German government under Chancellor Olaf Scholz cannot relocate the funds which were spent for the relief of Coronavirus.
