AIIMS Delhi doctors held a telemedicine consultation with Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, who is currently in Tihar jail, responding to the concerns about his health as raised by AAP with the alleged denial of insulin injection. The 40 minutes consultancy session was dedicated to Kejriwal’s medication according to his records and the doctor firmly reported no serious health issues. The consultation upon request of Kejriwal’s wife Sunita was based on his glucose monitoring data, dietary intake, and drug prescriptions.
The controversy over his deteriorating health began when AAP officials accused the Tihar Jail authorities of risking Kejriwal’s life by not giving him insulin despite his blood sugar levels reaching 300. But, the jail’s response primarily pointed out the fact that Mr. Kejriwal did not bring up this issue of insulin neither discussed this with the doctors during the video conference.
Delhi’s minister Atishi expressed worry about Kejriwal’s diabetes and insisted that if he was not given insulin, his life was in danger. The AAP party members criticised the Tihar Jail authorities for the non-availability of specialised medical treatment, which they called a deliberate act of criminal negligence. They told that Kejriwal was not seen by a doctor for about 20 days and disproving claims by prison authorities that all necessary medical facilities were there.

Against AAPs claim, Tihar jail officials have clarified that they had recently applied for a diabetologist from AIIMS which was not the same as their previous statements about adequate medical facilities for the diabetic inmates.
The recent uproar concerning Kejriwal’s health is the continuation of the dispute following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate on charges of a defunct liquor policy. The next hearing regarding his detention has been scheduled for April 23, 2024.
