People started to leave from chennai to celebrate the Pongal festival. Due to this, there is heavy traffic jam on GST Road, Perungalathur, Tambaram and poonamallee. The vehicles are struck up to 2 kilometers and vehicles crawling inch by inch around these places.
The Pongal festival is going to be celebrated from 14th January(sunday) to 17th January (wednesday). To celebrate the festival in their hometown, a large number of people started leaving Chennai yesterday 12th January. It is expected that more than 2 lakh people left Chennai in a single day yesterday and people are still flocking to their hometowns. Due to this, there is a heavy traffic jam in Chennai.
Special buses
Vehicles leaving for various states from Chennai are from Koyambedu, Kilambakkam, Tambaram, Poondhamalli. Apart from regular 2,100 buses from Chennai, 4,706 special buses are being operated to facilitate the citizens to go to their hometown without difficulty.
Routes struck in traffic
At present, SETC buses for Southern Districts are operated from Kilambakkam Bus Station. Due to this, people from other parts of Chennai travel by city buses to go to Kilambakkam. As these vehicles are also stuck in traffic, people are finding it difficult to catch the buses on time in Kilambakkam.
In addition, people are traveling by bus and cars to Krishnagiri, Hosur, Dharmapuri, Vellore, Ranipet and surrounding places on the Chennai-Bangalore National Highway via Sriperumbudur. Due to this, vehicles are lined up at Sriperumbudur toll plaza also.
This is a regular scenario for Chennai when it comes to a long holiday and the people are looking forward to a permanent solution from the government to solve this heavy traffic mess every time.
