4 people killed in the violence broke out in Thoubal district of Manipur. Before this tension gets digested some insurgents attack the commando police with guns. Manipur is now again suffered by violence and restlessness.
Re-tension in Manipur
Manipur faced severe violence for more than three months and now the tensions have again resurfaced. In this situation, another violence broke out in Manipur yesterday, January 1, 2024. It is said that an unidentified person who came in a vehicle tried to extort money and continued to shoot all the people in sight with an automatic gun in his hand, in which 4 people were killed. The incident happened in Lilong area of Thoubal district of Manipur.
This incident caused tension there again. A curfew has been imposed in the districts of Taupal, Imphal East and Imphal West, Kakshing and Bishnubar to prevent any outbreak of violence. Chief Minister of Manipur, Biren Singh strongly condemned the firing in Thoubal district and said that people should maintain peace.
The very next day of this Thoubal violence, in Moreh, a town on the border of Manipur, there was a gunfight between the police and the insurgents. In this 4 commandos and 1 BSF (Border security force) jawan were injured. The incident has created a sensation in Manipur again and the violence has erupted there again which caused a tense situation there.
The CM immediately called the MLAs and held an emergency meeting. After the meeting he promised that Manipur police will take necessary action to arrest the insurgents.
Manipur violence:
Manipur, One of the northern states of India has been drenched in violence for more than 3 months from May 2023. There has been massive violence breaking out between the two ethnic groups Meitei and kuki living in Manipur. The conflict lasted for more than 3 months. The cruelty went to its peak when a video of two women being naked and getting harassed spread over the internet. The state government was unable to control the violence which created a sensation throughout the country.
Several people took refuge in the neighbouring state. Later, the security forces were mobilised and the tension was somewhat defused. However, in the meantime, there has been an occasional tense situation in Manipur for the past few weeks.
