Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has been issued new summons by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), directing him to appear before the agency on January 27 and 31.
This comes as part of the ongoing money laundering probe related to an alleged land scam. Individuals familiar with the matter disclosed this information, indicating that the ED seeks further questioning in connection with the investigation.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has asserted the necessity for clarifications concerning its investigation into the alleged scam connected to the ownership of a 7.16-acre land in Ranchi. In relation to this case, 14 individuals have been arrested.
ED at Soren’s house
Earlier, Soren had skipped the previous seven summons issued by the ED but agreed to record his statement at his house. The ED questioned him for over seven hours at his house on Saturday.
JMM workers protested against this outside the CM’s residence, warning that if the ED continues to subject their leader to torture, they will engage in aggressive protests.
Soren also shared his plans with his workers, stating that in any case, if he is arrested, he outlined what should be done. After his questioning, while addressing JMM workers, Soren said, “I am not scared of anyone,” and he assured his party that if anything happens, he will be the first to face the bullet. He told them to keep their morale high.
Before the election ED raids on opposition leaders
The 2024 elections are approaching, and we observe that the ED is fully active. Two opposition leaders, Hemant Soren and Arvind Kejriwal, are under the scrutiny of the ED. Earlier, the ED also issued a summons to Kejriwal.
Both AAP and JPP allege that the ED summons is planned by the ruling party BJP to weaken the opposition. This is fully politically motivated. The opposition claims that the ED is acting as a political agency to target their political leader.
Whatever the truth may be, it is clearly seen that before the 2024 election, the ED is also in full active mode.”
