People frequently take on more job pressure due to the urge to advance financially and professionally quickly, which frequently pushes them to take drastic measures. But does a robot experience the same thing?

Robot suicide

The Gumi City Council in South Korea recently asserted that a civil servant robot actually “committed suicide,” marking the first “robot suicide” in the history of the country.
The Daily Mail reported on the event, giving further details: it was claimed that the ‘Robot Supervisor’ killed itself on June 26 since its pieces were discovered strewn under the stairs connecting the council building’s first and second levels.

work schedule

Every day from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m., the robot was employed by Gumi City Council. This conscientious and multi-talented mechanical assistant has been with the company since August 2023. The robot was a mainstay at city hall, serving many functions such as document delivery, civic promotion, and informational outreach to the public. It was even issued a civil service officer card. The robot, which had a unique ability of its sort, worked nonstop from 9 am to 6 pm, utilizing elevators to go between levels.

Was the robot overburdened?

The robot circled in the same spot for a considerable amount of time before collapsing, suggesting that it was under stress from an overwhelming task, according to the article. Some even claimed that the robot leaped to the ground. Although the cause of the robot’s behavior is unknown, research is being done on it. The robot’s parts have been gathered by the special investigative team, and the company will now examine them.

Background

Robot

The “robot supervisor” was designated as an officer earlier in August 2023. It was created by the Californian robotics business Bear Robotics and carried a card for a civil service official. The International Federation of Robotics claims that South Korea has the greatest robot density in the world, with one industrial robot for every ten employees.

However, it is highly improbable that the Gumi City Council in South Korea would choose to accept another robot cop in light of the recent “robot suicide case” occurrence.

Future of Robot Deployment

The city council decides to delay deploying a second robot. Following this occurrence, the Gumi City Council reportedly said that it is delaying its intentions to send out another robot cop. With one industrial robot for every ten workers, South Korea is renowned for its robot adoption, according to the International Federation of Robotics.
