Seven MLAs of Samajwadi party voted in favour of BJP candidates in the Rajya Sabha election held yesterday, 27 February. Because of this, cross-voting by BJP won 8 seats in Uttar Pradesh.
State wise election results
There were 56 Rajya Sabha seats vacant this year.
In this, a total of 41 people were elected unopposed, including former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, BJP leader JP Natta and Union Minister of State L. Murugan. In this situation, the Election Commission has announced that the voting for remaining 15 Rajya Sabha seats will be held on Tuesday, February 27. The elections for the 15 seats were in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka. Nominations for this election ended on 15 February and the election was held yesterday.
BJP wins big in Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh has 10 Rajya Sabha seats, BJP can send 7 members and Samajwadi party can send 3 members. In this situation, the election was held in on Tuesday, 27 February. In this BJP bags 8 seats and Samajwadi Party won only 2 seats. These results clearly show that the Samajwadi Party MLAs voted for the BJP candidates.
After this, the Samajwadi Party filed a complaint. Due to this, there has been a delay in the declaration of the results. It should be noted that, just before the polling, Manoj Pandey, the assembly Whip of the Samajwadi Party had resigned from his post.
BJP’s victory in Himachal Pradesh
In Congress ruled Himachal Pradesh, two candidates contested for one seat. Senior Supreme court Advocate, Abhishek Manu Singhvi contested on behalf of Congress and former Congress MLA, Harsh Mahajan contested on behalf of BJP.
Congress makes it in Karnataka
Similarly in Congress ruling Karnataka 5 candidates competed for 4 seats. In this congress won 3 seats and BJP won one seat.
