Around 18 farmer associations from nearly 100 villages jointly announced a rally towards the national capital Delhi from Punjab on 13th February emphasising 10 demands.
Farmers demands
It is reported that this rally will start from the state of Punjab and the farmers will march towards Delhi. The rally aims to press the Union government to consider their 10 demands including, legal guarantee for minimum support price (MSP) for all crops, debt waivers, job assurance for farmers families who lost their life in 2020-2021 farmers protest in Delhi, withdrawal of the criminal cases on the farmers who participated in the same protest, etc.
Talk before the rally
Farmers from nearly 100 villages are expected to take part in the rally towards Delhi. In this context, three Union Ministers including, Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for food, Public distribution and Consumer affairs; Arjun Mund, Minister of Agriculture and Nityanand Rai, Minister of States for Home affairs held a meeting with the farmers association in Chandigarh on 8 February, in which farmers put their demands on the table. Punjab chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is also presented in the meet.
What are all discussed in Meeting?
After the first round of talk yesterday evening, Punjab Chief Minister said that, we don’t want any agitation to happen and the things can be sorted out through conversations. He also pointed out that a general consensus emerged on withdrawing the case registered against the farmers during the 2020-2021 protest and it will be definitely considered by the government. The next round of talk will be held on 12 February.
After the conversation with the Union Ministers, farmers organisations said that they were ready to sit again on February 12 with the Ministers to get a solution. But the farmers are firm on their rally plan towards Delhi, if the government did not accept their demands by then.
Farmers protest 2020-21
Earlier, In the last year 2020-21, farmers from all over the country carried out protests against the 3 laws, The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, which are brought by the Union government. The protest was carried out on the Delhi-haryana border. This rally towards Delhi from Punjab is the continuation of that protest.
