Prime Minister Narendra Modi is presently on a two-day visit to the southern states of Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. During his tour, Modi visited the Thriprayar Shree Ramaswamy Temple in Thrissur, Kerala, on Wednesday. The Triprayar temple, located in the heart of Kerala, is a significant place that highlights the importance of Lord Ram as its main deity.
Kerala visit-strategy to connect South?
This is the second trip to southern states for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the span of 15 days. The Prime Minister is back in Kerala for the second time within this period. The southern region holds strategic importance.
for the BJP to secure success in the Lok Sabha polls, given that the party is not as dominant in the south as it is in the northern states.
In the first two days of the new year, the Prime Minister visited Lakshadweep and Tamil Nadu, and now he is in Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. The consecutive trips by Modi to the southern states suggest that the BJP is putting considerable effort into winning over voters in the south.
BJP’S mission to win Kerala
The BJP has never won a seat from Kerala in the General election. The only time it secured an assembly seat was in 2016, but it was defeated by the CPIM in 2021. Additionally, the BJP has faced losses in state elections in Karnataka and Telangana. Therefore, it is the need of the hour for the BJP to focus on visiting the southern states and appealing to south voters with its policies.
During his last visit to Kerala, the Prime Minister emphasized women empowerment. The BJP is also making efforts to appeal to the Christian community in Kerala, which constitutes a significant portion of the population. The party is focusing on three Lok Sabha seats in particular.
Modi also visited the Veerabhadra temple in Andhra Pradesh, which holds significant importance in the Ramayana. During his campaign while addressing the people in Andhra Pradesh, he stated that the entire country is now “RAMAMAYA,” and in Ram Rajya, the people are the kings.
In the past, Kerala has rejected the BJP; this time, the party is focused on strengthening its position in the south, particularly in Kerala, where Modi is not as popular as in the northern states. This marks his second trip, emphasizing religious visits to temples in an effort to connect with the broader audience. Time will tell the success of this campaign in the south; however, the BJP is putting in significant effort.
