Pankaj Tripathi is back with a powerful performance with the long-awaited movie on Atal Bihari Vajpayee, titled “Main Atal Hoon,” has finally been released. Directed by Ravi Jadhav, the film ambitiously attempts to encompass various pivotal aspects of Vajpayee’s life, including his early days as a Sangh member, his struggles, the challenging period of the emergency in India, the historic Pokhran nuclear tests, the controversial demolition of the Babri Masjid, and his remarkable ascent as a formidable politician.
However, the film’s endeavor to cover such a wide range of events simultaneously results in a narrative that occasionally loses focus and fails to delve deeply into each significant phase of Vajpayee’s life.
Powerpack Performances
Pankaj Tripathi’s performance is brilliant; he is perfect for the role. His command over the Hindi language was essential for the character, especially as a poet and statesman, and he did justice to his role. Additionally, we can’t ignore Piyush Mishra’s portrayal of Atal Bihari’s father; he was flawless.
The way his poems are presented in this film is impressive, and his respect for his rivals is portrayed beautifully. The cinematography is awesome, and the dialogue is written smartly.
The casting is done smartly; every character closely resembles the original, especially the portrayal of Sushma Swaraj. Audiences may be mesmerized by the fact that she is not the real person. Performance-wise, it is one of the best movies; every cast member has done justice to their roles.
Whether we agree with Atal Bihari Vajpayee or not, we all concur that he was a prominent political figure. Pankaj Tripathi is the perfect choice for portraying him. Performances by the actors are soul of this film.
Weakness of the movie
The weakness of the movie lies in its story. Scenes depicting the emergency and other crucial events that require more detailed exploration or focus end abruptly. While the first half of the film is good, the second half becomes somewhat boring; it could have been better written. Moreover, the screenplay is not exceptional, and people may find it boring at times due to the writing not being particularly strong.
It’s a one-time watch movie. If you’re a fan of Pankaj Tripathi, this is the go-to movie to witness his amazing performance, along with stellar acting by the other cast members. The timing of the movie’s release, coinciding with the Ram Mandir “Pran Pratishtha” Ceremony, works in favor of the film. Therefore, to enjoy power-packed performances by the incredible actors, it’s a must-watch.
