Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley has formally requested Secret Service protection amidst escalating threats encountered during her 2024 presidential campaign, as reported on Monday.
“We’ve had multiple issues,” Haley said. “It’s not going to stop me from doing what I need to do.”
Last week, she was questioned at a news conference why there were increased levels of security at her events.
“When you do something like this, you get threats,” she said. “It’s just the reality.”
Why is there need of security?
Both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump receive Secret Service protection. The Secret Service protects the president and vice president as well as their families along with some senior government officials. It is also authorized to provide protection to major party presidential candidates an authority granted after the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy in 1968.
Nikki Haley vs Trump
Haley, the final prominent contender challenging Trump in the Republican primary race, is concentrating her efforts on the upcoming South Carolina primary scheduled for February 24th. This pivotal contest serves as a platform for her to showcase momentum against Trump. Despite this primary focus, Haley is also traversing the nation to participate in fundraisers and is slated to make an appearance at a rally in California on Wednesday.
Trump advanced further toward securing the Republican presidential nomination following his victory over Nikki Haley in New Hampshire’s primary. MSNBC reports that Haley’s current support base primarily consists of independents, moderates, and anti-Trump Republicans. Despite setbacks in both Iowa and New Hampshire, she remains resolute, refusing to withdraw from the race.
Addressing a gathered crowd at an election watch party in Concord, New Hampshire, Haley asserted, “This race is far from over. There are dozens of states left to go, and the next one is my beloved state of South Carolina.”
