Mamta Banerjee and Amit Shah were seen inflicting strong comments on CAA during the recent visit of Home Minister to Bengal.
Minister of Home affairs of India Amit Shah said that their government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will implement CAA in the country and no one can stop it.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee on Thursday accused BJP of exploiting the citizen issue for political gains and said, she will not allow CAA in West Bengal. She opposed this move of government.
What is CAA?
CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) was passed by parliament in 2020, it offers citizenship rights to religious minorities who came to India from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh before 2015.
The 1955 Citizenship Act has been amended twice by the BJP-led NDA government for members of the Hindu, Sikh, Christian, Parsi, and Jain communities who live in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh.
Why Mamta Banerjee and Others are Opposing CAA?
Various parties and people from the country including Trinamool Congress (TMC) along with Mamta Banerjee opposed this Bill from starting. The reason for their disagreement is that this Bill excludes Muslims from citizenship rights, so this is against the secular policy of our country.
Banerjee said that TMC would lead the fight against BJP in West Bengal.
They say that this is unconstitutional as this law CAA give citizenship to the people based on their religion. That’s why this is against the constitution which says India is a secular country and there will be no differentiation among people based on religion.
Amit Shah along with Ruling Party’s take on CAA
Union Minister Amit Shah said that CAA will be implemented in the country, and nobody can stop it. Their party is very sure about this.
Addressing a rally in Kolkata, he said CAA is the law of the land and nobody can stop its implementation.
He alleged Mamta Banerjee has been unable to stop infiltration in West Bengal and he also alleged that Aadhar cards and voter cards have been distributed to infiltrators in the State. He said that Chief Minister of Bengal is misleading the people on this issue.
BJPs’ take on CAA is that it provides citizenship to the people who have been exploited based on religion in neighboring countries (Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh) as Muslims have been the majority in these countries so there is no need to provide them citizenship. It is India’s responsibility to assure them of citizenship who have been exploited due to their religion and give them safe space.
They say that this was also promised by Mahatma Gandhi.
With the coming of this Bill, protests are going both in Favour and against CAA, the ruling party BJP and opposition parties accused each other of propagating false information and misleading the people.
