Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that former Deputy Prime Minister and BJP’s senior leader Lal Krishna Advani, will be honoured with Bharat Rathna.

In this regard, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a long note on his X social media page that Shri L.K Advani Ji will be honoured with Bharat Ratna and I congratulated him for this honour. He also added that “Advani ji made unparalleled efforts to promote national unity and cultural revival. The moment when he was awarded the Bharat Ratna was very emotional for me. I will always consider it my privilege to have had countless opportunities to interact with him and learn from him.”
LK Advani- a decade long leader
Lal Krishna Advani, senior BJP leader was born on November 8,1927 in Karachi, then a united India, now a part of Pakistan. After the partition of India-Pakistan, his family came to India. He joined the RSS at a young age and later worked for the Jana Sangh. After that, he was known as the face of BJP for a long time along with Vajpayee. He has served as the president of Bharatiya Janata Party for the longest period. Advani’s “Rath Yatra” in 1990 for the construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya is regarded as an important turning point in national politics.
He has a parliamentary career of nearly 3 decades in which he served as Union Home Minister, Deputy Prime Minister. He also wrote a book called “My Country, My Life”.

The BJP government conferred 6 Bharat Ratnas in their tenure of the past ten years. The awardees include Karpoori Thakur, Madan Mohan Malviya, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Pranab Mukherjee, Buphen Hazarika, Nanaji Deshmuk.
