Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Friday that the government’s choice to commemorate the murder of the Constitution on June 25 as Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas will serve as a reminder of what transpired “when the Constitution of India was trampled over.”
“To observe June 25th as #SamvidhaanHatyaDiwas will serve as a reminder of what happens when the Constitution of India is trampled over,” he said in a post on the X. It is also a day to honour all those who lost out as a result of the Emergency, a horrible period in Indian history that Congress unleashed.

Purpose of Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas
In an effort to raise awareness of the injustices meted out to citizens under the Emergency enforced by the Congress Party’s Indira Gandhi administration, the government decided to commemorate June 25, the day the Emergency was implemented, as “Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas.”
Home Minister Amit Shah’s Statement

The day will serve as a reminder to Indian citizens of the enormous contribution made by all those who endured the inhumane suffering during the Emergency of 1975, according to Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement on Friday.
Details of the Emergency
He stated, “On June 25, 1975, Indian democracy was strangled by the then-prime minister Indira Gandhi’s totalitarian attitude and the imposition of emergency in the nation. The media’s voice was muffled, and thousands of individuals were imprisoned without cause.
Official Declaration
“The Government of India has decided to observe June 25 as ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’ every year,” he stated. This day will serve as a reminder of the enormous contribution made by everyone who endured the horrendous suffering during the 1975 Emergency.
“Whereas a proclamation of emergency was made on June 25, 1975, following which there was gross abuse of power by the government of the day and people of India were subjected to excesses and atrocities,” the Home Ministry stated in a gazette notice (Extraordinary) released on Friday.
Commitment to Democracy
The Government of India has declared June 25 to be “Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas” in remembrance of all those who suffered and battled against the egregious misuse of power during the Emergency Period and to reiterate the people’s commitment to never again support such egregious misuse of power. This is done in light of the people’s unwavering faith in the power of India’s resilient democracy and the Constitution.
On Thursday, Home Ministry Joint Secretary G. Parthasarathi signed the notification.
After Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla mentioned the country’s declaration of emergency on June 25, 1975, the 18th Lok Sabha maintained quiet for a brief period of time on June 26 during a special session held in accordance with its constitution.
