Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate after 7 hours of intense investigation in a money laundering case.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was allegedly involved in a land scam and a money laundering case. He was summoned many times by the enforcement directorate (ED). Then they enquired him in his house in Ranchi last week and seized Rs 36 lakh cash, a luxury car and some documents. Meanwhile, they conducted another raid in his house yesterday, 31 January and arrested him. His Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) party staged a protest against the Chief Minister’s arrest.
Hemant Soren arrested
In this case, the officials of the enforcement department conducted an inquiry with Chief Minister Hemant Soren from 2 pm. After 7 hours of investigation, finally the enforcement officers arrested him and took him to their office.
New CM of Jharkhand
Earlier, Chief Minister Hemant Soren submitted his resignation letter to Governor CP Radhakrishnan at 8.30pm. Following this, Champai Soren, a close supporter of Hemant Soren and the Transport Minister is selected as a new chief Minister of the state. Out of 81 MLAs of the state 47 MLAs from the JMM party supporting Champai Soren to be the next Chief Minister and they present a letter of support for Champai Soren to the Governor.
They also said that if the Governor refused to meet the MLAs supporting Champai Soren they are going to do a parade in front of Raj Bhavan. The JMM party claims that they enjoy a majority even after the arrest of Hemant Soren and they are ready to face the floor test also if needed.
Tension throughout Ranchi
As Chief Minister Hemant Soren arrested in money laundering case, the JMM party members involved in protest against ED officials. So Prohibitory Order 144 has been issued around Hemant Soren’s house, Governor’s House and Enforcement Department office in Ranchi up to a distance of 100 meters. Paramilitary forces and police have also been deployed. Due to this there is tension in Ranchi.
Case against ED officials
In this situation, Hemant Soren has filed a complaint against ED officials. Since he belongs to the category, it is revealed that the complaint is lodged under the SC/ST Atrocities Act. In his complaint he mentioned that the ED officials acted to tarnish his name and their community and also they came to the Chief Minister’s residence in Delhi without any prior notice and spread false information about him. Subsequently, a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against senior enforcement officers Kapil Raj, Devvirat Jha, Anupam Kumar.
