Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi ignored the speech prepared by the Tamil Nadu government, in the first session of this year’s Legislative Assembly which convened today.
Glimpses of Governor’s speech
Governor R.Ns Ravi starts his address in Tamil and he conveys his New year wishes to everyone. Then he continued his speech by referring to Thirukkural, which championed the objectives of the government regarding the development of Tamil Nadu. The meaning of the Thirukkural which he reads is, a disease-free life for the people, abundance of crops, economic prosperity, level of happiness and proper security are the five beauties of a country.
Then the Governor conveys that It is his request and advice to play the National Anthem at the beginning and end of the meeting out of respect for the Country. It is to be noted that the Tamil Nadu Assembly has the ritual of playing the Tamil Anthem in the beginning of the Assembly session and playing the National Anthem at the end of the session.
The Governor RN Ravi also added that there are many paragraphs in this speech of the government, which he disagrees with on both factual and moral grounds. Therefore, he concluded his address by saying that there should be discussions in this House that are beneficial to the people. Long live Tamil Nadu, long live Bharat, Jai Hind, Jai Bharat and thank you.
Governor walks out
The Governor continued to sit in the Assembly even after ignoring the Tamil Nadu Government’s speech without reading it. Then the Speaker Appavu started to read the full speech which the Governor ignored. Soon after the Speaker completed the address, the Governor left the House before the National Anthem played.
After this the Assembly moved a resolution considering the Governor’s address as fully delivered including the portions which were not read by him.

Similar scenario happened in the Tamil Nadu Assembly last year on 9 January 2023. Governor RN Ravi walked out from the Assembly, when Chief Minister MK Stalin moved a resolution which sought to expel the Governor’s address outside the customary government-prepared address, from house records.
