The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party government proved a massive victory in the floor test of Delhi Assembly today, 17 Feburary, with 54 MLAs voting in favour of the ruling government.
Out of 70 assembly constituencies in Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) holds 62 seats and BJP holds 8 seats. In this situation, Kejriwal tabled the confidence motion in the Assembly yesterday, alleging that the BJP is trying to buy the MLAs of AAP and is involved in a conspiracy to topple the Delhi government and that the party is taking advantage of its MLAs.
Operation Lotus
Delhi Chief Minister Aravindh Kejriwal made these allegations by pointing out that BJP tried to implement their operation Lotus in Delhi, which means BJP tries to break and overthrow state parties from the ruling government by filing false cases on the MLAs. Kejiriwal condemned that BJP cannot win the elections in Delhi so they are trying to arrest AAP MLAs and try to overthrow the government.
Floor test in Delhi assembly
So, the ruling AAP government proposed this confidence motion in the House to prove their majority and to let the people know that they are united and none of the AAP party MLAs are defeated.
According to the floor test that happened today in Delhi assembly, the Kejriwal government proved majority with the support of 54 MLAs in the trust vote. Regarding this, Arvind Kejriwal said, “No one has left the Aam Aadmi Party. Two MLAs have been jailed. Some are unwell, some are out of town”. It is noteworthy that this is the second trust vote this government is facing since they came to power in 2020.
