What has made AAP furious?
On Tuesday, Manoj Sonkar of the BJP secured victory in the Chandigarh mayoral polls with 16 votes, surpassing the 12 votes received by the Congress-AAP candidate, Kuldeep Tita. Allegations of rigging arose as eight votes out of thirty-six votes were declared invalid, prompting Opposition leaders to voice their concerns.
Chaos ensued after Sonkar assumed the mayor’s seat, leading to protests against the presiding authority, Anil Masih. Marshals were subsequently summoned to control the situation.
Opposition councilors claimed that there was tampering with the ballot papers during the elections, however the BJP called these allegations baseless.
Highlighting that, for the first time in the Chandigarh mayoral elections, eight out of the 36 votes were declared invalid, AAP MP Raghav Chadha alleged that this suggests if the BJP can employ all illegal tactics in a mayoral election, what actions might they take during the Lok Sabha elections? He questioned whether the BJP aimed to transform India into North Korea.
Various leaders of Aam Aadmi Party express their anger over the declaration of votes invalid and alleged BJP of cheating.
Setback for INDIA bloc
It was another disappointment for the INDIA bloc as the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) teamed up for the post, calling it the first time these anti-BJP alliance parties joined forces in an election.
Things are not going smoothly for the INDIA bloc as problems continue to arise one after another. This is not a good sign for the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress as they attempt a fresh start.
