Vijayakanth, a Famous Tamil actor and the founder of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) passed away at the age of 71 on 28 December.
Health issues of Captain Vijayakanth
Vijayakant had been affected by various health problems in recent years. He was under treatment for a lung infection and he often went for follow up treatments. Because of this he has been away from both cinema and politics for the past few years. He also underwent an amputation procedure in 2020.
Last month Vijaykanth faced severe breathing problems, lung infection and cough on 29 November and was admitted to Miot hospital in Nandambakkam where he got ventilator support. Then he was declared fully recovered on 11 December and returned home from hospital.
Demise of Captain
In this situation, Vijayakant was again admitted in hospital recently for treatment and he tested covid positive which took his life. The Miot hospital issued a statement that Vijayakant died due to covid infection.
DMDK’s General Secretary
Meanwhile the 18th General Committee and Executive Committee meeting of DMDK was held on 14 December and Premalatha Vijayakanth who is the treasure of the party was appointed as General Secretary of DMDK
Tributes for Captain Vijayakanth
Various political party leaders and cinema industry people are condoling the death of Vijayakanth. Chief Minister Stalin personally visited Saligramam where DMDK chief Vijayakanth’s body is kept to pay his respects and shared a condolence note referring Vijaykanth as his dear friend.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also shared his condolence note that he was deeply saddened by the death of Vijayakanth and fondly remember his interaction with Vijayakanth as a close friend over the years.
