Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi has stirred the political plot with his recent query about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s future plans as he nears the age of 75. With speculation swirling about Modi’s potential retirement, Arvind Kejriwal’s bold question has ignited a debate within political circles, adding a new layer of intrigue to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the national capital.
Arvind Kejriwal’s Bold Question: Who Will Succeed Modi?
Arvind Kejriwal who has been granted interim bail until June 1 in connection with a case related to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam addressed a campaign rally where he raised pertinent questions about the BJP’s succession plans once Modi reaches the retirement age of 75 next year.
Referring to the retirement of senior BJP leaders at the age of 75, Arvind Kejriwal highlighted the need for clarity on whether Modi would adhere to the same rule. He emphasized, “Modi ji is turning 75 on 17 September next year. He had made the rule that people aged 75 will be retired. L.K. Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Sumitra Mahajan, and Yashwant Sinha were retired at 75. That way, Modi should retire next year on 17 September, then who will be your next PM?”
In response to Arvind Kejriwal’s inquiries, Union Home Minister Amit Shah asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would continue to lead the nation, dismissing any speculation about retirement. Shah reaffirmed, “I want to tell Arvind Kejriwal and the INDIA alliance that there is no need to be happy about Modiji turning 75. It is not written in the Constitution of the BJP that Modiji cannot become prime minister. He will again become prime minister and complete the term.” Shah’s statement underscores the BJP’s unwavering support for Modi’s leadership and commitment to continuity in governance.
