In a significant stride towards realizing the “make-in-India” vision, Bengaluru-based Dynamatic Technologies has been granted a groundbreaking aerospace order by Airbus. This landmark deal entails the production of doors for all variants of the A220 aircraft, marking a pivotal moment for the Indian aerospace industry.
The contract encompasses both the manufacturing and assembly of Airbus’s A220 aircraft doors, positioning it as one of the most substantial aerospace export agreements to India, as highlighted in the statement.
The delivery will begin early next year said Dynamatic technology chief executive officer.
Dynamatic technology
As part of the deal, Dynamatic Technologies in Bengaluru will make and put together different types of doors for the A220 planes, including cargo, passenger, and service doors, as well as emergency exit doors on the wings. Each aircraft will have eight doors in total.
The contract for making doors also involves producing smaller parts and pieces, which will open up opportunities for other Indian suppliers.
Udayant Malhoutra, the CEO of Dynamatic Technologies, said that the company plans to deliver the first set of doors to Airbus sometime early next year. He mentioned that they’ve already started the process of setting up production and will be ready to deliver the doors as planned.
Make in India
Bengaluru-based Dynamatic Technologies, which already makes a part called the Flap Track Beam for Airbus A330 and A320 Family planes, has won this contract. It’s one of the biggest deals ever for an Indian aerospace company selling its products overseas.
In 2023, Airbus asked Tata Advanced Systems Ltd. to make bulk and cargo doors for A320 planes. Rémi Maillard, who leads Airbus in India and South Asia, said, “This deal with Dynamatic technology, our reliable partner, is a big step forward in making aerospace parts in India. It involves putting together complicated systems that will give India new skills.”
Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia mentioned that India is now a growing hub for making aircraft parts. He pointed out that it’s a good moment for Airbus to put money into India. The minister also stated that Airbus plans to double its purchases of aircraft parts from India to $1.5 billion. Last year, it was at $750 million.
