AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences), New Delhi has reversed its earlier decision to implement a half-working day on January 22 in light of the Pranpratishtha ceremony of the Ayodhya Ram Temple. Consequently, the Outpatient Department (OPD) will maintain regular operational hours throughout Monday.
On Saturday, AIIMS Delhi had initially declared a half day off of its offices and institutions on January 22, citing the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
Faced criticism
Following widespread criticism from opposition leaders, journalists, and even Ram devotees on social media, AIIMS reconsidered its decision.
The discontent stemmed from the belief that sectors related to health, being emergency services, should not be closed for religious reasons. Various public figures expressed their opposition to this decision and voiced criticism against the move.
Duty over Religious sentiment
The latest circular issued on Sunday (January 21) states, “The outpatient department shall remain open to attend to patients with appointments to prevent any inconvenience to them.” Additionally, a statement from the hospital’s Administrative Officer ensures that all critical services will continue to function seamlessly.
The consecration ceremony at the Ayodhya Ram temple is scheduled for Monday. The “Pran Pratishtha” ceremony will begin at 12:20 pm and is anticipated to conclude by 1 pm. The entire country is filled with enthusiasm and is prepared for the consecration ceremony. Various religious programs are being conducted in connection with this event. However, several major opposition political parties have declined to participate in the ceremony. On the contrary, states ruled by the BJP have declared a day off on this occasion.
The ceremony is connected to the sentiments of the people, but essential sectors such as health should not be disrupted as they constitute a basic need for the people. We have every right to celebrate our religious events without causing inconvenience to others.
