Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the state devastated by ethnic violence on Thursday by sharing a video of his visit to the relief camps in Manipur on “X.”

The Congress MP made note of the fact that Manipur is still in turmoil in the five-minute video. Rahul Gandhi shared the video on social media and commented, “Houses are burning, innocent lives are in danger, and thousands of families are forced to live in relief camps.”

Ongoing Turmoil and Division in Manipur

Rahul Gandhi claimed that even now the state of Manipur is separated into two sections, having visited the region for the third time since violence broke out in May 2023. He also asked PM Narendra Modi to personally visit the state, listen to people’s concerns, and make a plea for peace.

Rahul Gandhi comforts many people in the uploaded video who bemoan the ethnic conflicts in the state.

Heartfelt Stories from Relief Camp

In the video, a woman from the Jiribam relief camp in Manipur claims that her grandma is still trapped in a combat zone and that they are unaware of her location. “Even if we get in touch with her, she can’t come here, and we can’t go there,” she stated.
A lady said that medical neglect claimed her brother in a relief camp in Thalai, Assam. She said that her brother’s death was caused by the government’s inability to provide proper medical treatment. Rahul Gandhi declared that the Congress party will supply the camp with medications.

“The conflict can end very quickly if the government wants it to,” he said at a relief camp in Manipur’s Churachandpur.

On May 3, a Kuki-led solidarity march against a Manipur High Court judgment for the state administration to examine adding the Meiteis to the Scheduled Tribes list resulted in violence in Churachandpur. This resulted in a battle between the Kukis and the Meiteis that reportedly killed over 220 people and had an impact on the entire state.

Rahul Gandhi’s Promise to Raise the Issue in Parliament

“I can bring up the matter and exert pressure. I can’t promise you I’ll go back, though. Since the government will provide an answer to that question,. “I’ll speak for you in the next session,” Rahul Gandhi informed the residents of the Moirang relief camp.
