Author and philanthropist Sudha Murty made a push for encouraging domestic travel as well as a government-sponsored inoculation campaign to fight cervical cancer during her first speech to the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. On the eve of International Women’s Day, the President nominated Sudha Murty to the Rajya Sabha.
“A vaccine known as the cervical vaccination is administered to females between the ages of nine and fourteen. “If the girls take that, it (cancer) can be avoided… we should promote vaccination for our girls because prevention is better than cure,” stated Sudha Murty, the mother-in-law of UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and wife of Infosys co-founder Narayana Murty.

Cervical Cancer Vaccination
Speaking during a discussion on the motion of recognition on the President’s Address, Sudha Murty stated that since the government managed a very “big vaccination drive during Covid,” it may not be too difficult to give cervical vaccinations to females between the ages of 9 and 14.
According to Sudha Murty, the cervical vaccine was created in the West and has been in use for the past 20 years.
“It performed flawlessly. It is not pricey. For those in the field like me, it is currently â‚ą1,400. The government might step in and negotiate to raise it to â‚ą700–800. We have so many people living here. Our girls will benefit from it in the future,” she remarked. In the chair, Rajeev Shukla requested Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to pass forward the word to the health minister.
Promotion of Domestic Travel and Heritage Sites
Speaking about domestic travel, Sudha Murty stated that 57 domestic travel destinations ought to be recognized as World Heritage Sites. These include the statue of Bahubali at Shravanabela Gola in Karnataka, the Gol Gumbad, the Shivaji forts in Maharashtra, the Lingaraja Temple, the Unakoti rock carvings in Tripura, the Chausath Yogini temple in Mitawali, the Lothal in Gujarat, and so on.
Heritage Sites
“In India, we have 42 World Heritage sites but 57 are pending … we should bother about those 57 sites,” Murty stated. She described Srirangam’s temples as magnificent. She stated that certain 2,500-year-old Sarnath structures are still not included as World Heritage Sites.
Historical importance
According to Murty, the ancient Chausath Yogini temple in Mitawali, Madhya Pradesh, dates back thousands of years. This temple served as the model for the former Parliament Building.
