In a fiery statement addressing the controversy surrounding the alleged involvement of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda’s grandson, Prajwal Revanna, Union Home Minister Amit Shah squarely placed the blame on the Congress government in Karnataka for the delayed action on the scandal involving Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda.
Shah asserted that the Congress played politics with the issue and allowed Prajwal Revanna to evade accountability until after the voting in Vokkaliga-dominated areas was over.
Amit Shah Blames Congress for Delayed Action
Amit Shah’s scathing remarks accused the Congress leadership of prioritizing electoral gains over justice, stating, “You did not initiate any action till the elections in the Vokkaliga belt were over. You did politics and allowed him (Prajwal Revanna) to escape.” He further emphasized, “Whose government is it in Karnataka? Congress party’s. Law and order is their responsibility. They knew about it for months. But they didn’t nab him until the Vokkaliga voting concluded. They let him flee. Karnataka Chief Minister, Home Minister, Deputy Chief Minister are responsible for it.”
However, Amit Shah continues to push the narrative of negligence and political protection provided by the Congress to Revanna. “The Congress has repeatedly shown a lack of commitment to justice when it comes to their own. Their delayed response in this case is a clear example of political expediency overriding the pursuit of justice,” Shah commented during the rally.
In response to Amit Shah’s accusations, the Congress countered by alleging that the BJP was aware of Prajwal Revanna’s alleged crimes but still sought votes for him. The political rhetoric escalated as both parties engaged in a war of words over the handling of the scandal.
The controversy reached a fever pitch as Prajwal Revanna’s suspension from the JD(S) was announced pending investigation, and an FIR was filed against him and his father, HD Revanna, by their house help, alleging sexual assault over several years.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah added fuel to the fire by urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in the matter in a letter posted on X. Siddaramaiah’s letter to Modi called for the cancellation of Prajwal Revanna’s diplomatic passport and his swift return to face the law.
The Chief Minister underscored the gravity of the allegations, stating, “The allegations that the MP and NDA candidate for Hassan Lok Sabha Prajwal Revanna is facing are horrific and shameful and these have shaken the conscience of the country … getting him back to the country is of utmost importance so that he faces investigation and trial as per the law of the land.”
Understanding the grave allegations against MP Prajwal Revanna, our government has swiftly formed a Special Investigation Team to ensure a thorough investigation.

Meanwhile, HD Revanna, Prajwal’s father, participated in a havan at his residence, expressing confidence in facing the allegations. Prajwal Revanna himself issued a statement asserting, “Truth will prevail,” amidst mounting pressure and public scrutiny.
The BJP maintained its stance against atrocities towards women and advocated for a thorough probe into the matter. Amit Shah reiterated the party’s commitment to justice, stating, “BJP cannot remain with those who commit atrocities against women.”
The controversy gains complexity against the backdrop of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, with 14 seats having already been contested on April 26, and an additional 14 set for May 7. Revanna’s departure from the country just one day after the first phase of voting has raised eyebrows and prompted accusations of political manoeuvring by the ruling state government.
The allegations against Prajwal Revanna, including nearly 3,000 explicit video clips allegedly involving him sexually abusing several women, have sparked outrage in Hassan and beyond. Despite Prajwal’s denial, the controversy has intensified, leading to his suspension from the JD(S) pending investigation.9
