The Election Commission of India has demands he Union government to deploy 3.40 lakh central security forces for the security of the Lok Sabha elections and some of the assemblies to be held along with it.
Elections 2024
Lok Sabha elections 2024 are expected to be held in April or May. Along with this election some states like Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Sikkim are going to face their assembly election.
So, the Election Commission is actively making preparations for the election. In this context, the Election Commission has written a letter to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the security force needed for election of the Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies.
It is said that a total of 3,400 companies of central armed police forces (CAPFs), that is 3.40 lakh police are required for election security.
State wise need of security forces
The Election Commission has requested in a letter written to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs explaining the need of the security forces state wise.
West Bengal needs 920 companies of paramilitary personnels Jammu and Kashmir 635 companies of paramilitary personnels, Chhattisgarh 360 companies of paramilitary forces, Bihar 295 companies of paramilitary forces, Uttar Pradesh 252 companies of paramilitary forces.
Similarly, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand and Punjab should send 250 paramilitary personnel each, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Manipur need 200 companies of paramilitary personnels each. Odisha requires 175 companies of paramilitary troops and Assam and Telangana require 160 paramilitary troops.
The demand goes 150 companies of paramilitary force to Maharashtra, 113 to Madhya Pradesh, 100 to Tripura, 95 to Haryana, 75 to Arunachal Pradesh, 70 companies each to Karnataka, Uttarakhand and Delhi should be sent for security.
66 for Kerala, 57 for Ladakh, 55 for Himachal Pradesh, 48 for Nagaland, 45 for Meghalaya, 17 for Mizoram, Dadra Nagar Haveli 14, 12 for Goa, 11 for Chandigarh, Puducherry, 10 for Andaman Nicobar.
Election Commission’s letter
The Election Commission has sent this letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs based on the letter sent by the Chief Electoral Officers of all the states and Union Territories to the Election Commission after examining the situation. Considering the presence of paramilitary forces, the Union Home Ministry is expected to take a decision on this demand of the Election Commission.
