Three CRPF personnel were killed and 14 persons were injured in an attack by Maoists in Bastar region of Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh on the evening of 30 January.
As per the information, the attack took place on the Sukma-Bijapur district border in Chhattisgarh. Earlier, on 26 January, the Republic day occasion was celebrated in the Maoist dominated area and the national flag was hoisted amid tight security. Following this Security personnels of CoBRA – elite unit, District reserve guards and special forces were on patrol around Tekulagudem village near Jonaguda – Aliguda region.
3 killed, 14 injured in attack
At that time the Maoists, who were hiding in the dense forest, launched an unexpected attack. Before the soldiers get aware and figure out from which side the attack is happening, three soldiers were killed. Realising the situation, the security forces also retaliated and the Maoists who initiated the attack fled into the forest. Later, the bodies of the three deceased were recovered by air ambulance. They have been identified as Devan.C, Pawan Kumar and Lampdar Sinha. It is also reported that 14 soldiers were severely injured.
Similar attack was held in the same Tekulagudem village in 2021 in which 23 security personnels were killed and 33 were severely injured.
Earlier this month Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a review meeting on the Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh. After that meeting he reported to the media, when he assured that “the Maoist menace will be eradicated in Chhattisgarh in the next three years”. However, this attack happened yesterday.
